Hiroshima - Fukushima, program on nuclear safety

A commemoration and remembrance with music, dance, speakers and refreshments, free to the public Saturday, August 6: Speakers from Japan and California at the Hiroshima-Nakasaki Remembrance next Saturday will bring Maui up to date on the ***ushima nuclear disaster and what the public needs to know about American and global reactor safety. Yumiko Nishimoto from ***ushima Japan will share problems faced by the evacuees from radiation-contaminated areas, and physics educator and science-literacy activist Lynda Williams from Santa Rosa, California, will speak on “Nuclear Radiation Truth Exposed: No Safe Dose.” The free, public event on Saturday, August 6, is in the UH Maui College Pilina Multi Purpose Room, upstairs in the Student Center building, with origami crane making, Koto music and Maui Taiko drumming at 6:00 pm. The formal program starts at 6:45 with the speakers, interfaith prayers for peace and a performance by the Maui Izanai-Yosakoi Dancers, light refreshments.
