Schools to continue providing meals

LAHAINA - The Hawaii State Department of Education's Grab-and-Go school meals program has transitioned to the summer meal program that runs through July 17.

The schools will provide meals to children 18 years or younger, free of charge, regardless of eligibility for free or reduced price meals.

The Maui locations are Lahaina Intermediate School (begins June 8), Iao Intermediate School, Kalama Intermediate School, Lokelani Intermediate School (begins June 8) and Waihee Elementary School.

Free meals for keiki 18 and under will be served on weekdays at Lahaina Intermediate School through July 17.

Meal distribution will continue to provide grab-and-go servings in walk-up and drive-thru lines.

Dine-in options will not be available.

Children do not have to be enrolled at the school distribution site, and they don't have to be public school students.

Student meals may be picked up without children present, but parents and guardians must provide one of the following verification documents:

1) Official letter or e-mail from school listing child(ren) enrolled;

2) Recent student report card(s);

3) Attendance record(s) from parent portals of school websites;

4) Birth certificate(s) of child(ren);

5) Student ID card(s);

6) Driver's permit/license(s) for high school students;

7) State-issued ID of the student.

Breakfast hours are 7:30 to 8 a.m. For food safety, meals must be consumed by 10 a.m.

Lunch hours are 11:30 a.m. to noon. For food safety, meals must be consumed by 2 p.m.

Food service will be held Mondays through Fridays, excluding holidays.
