LAHAINA - The Maui Friends of the Library Bookstore in the Outlets of Maui in Lahaina opened for business Monday, May 25, with new hours, noon to 6 p.m.

The store's checkout area is now decked with plexiglass screening for the safety of both staff and patrons. Face coverings must be worn in the store, and patrons should social distance at least 6 feet away from other customers, noted JoAnn Carroll, store manager.

The store offers some 15,000 gently used books at reasonable prices and also new Hawaiiana books, books by local authors and CDs.

Located at the corner of Front and Papalaua streets in Lahaina, the Outlets features many brand name stores and a large parking lot accessible from either street. The bookstore is across from Tommy Hilfiger.

The Outlets of Maui in Lahaina is the second MFOL store to open at a major shopping venue. MFOL's flagship store operates at Queen Ka'ahumanu Center and opened May 25 as well.

The Maui Friends of the Library is an all-volunteer organization. Funds raised from book sales support the nine Maui County Public Libraries, making it possible for them to purchase special programming for keiki and adults, many periodicals new books and more.

MFOL funds were used to purchase the Holoholo Bookmobile for $300,000, the renovation of Lahaina Public Library and the purchase of new signage for the re-landscaped lawn on Front Street.

The Lahaina store welcomes donations of books from the community. Please call 667-2696 and make an appointment for donations. Book donations are set aside for at least two days before handling by staff.
