LAHAINA - The Lahaina Complex Education Foundation is pleased to report that the 2018-19 after school math and language arts programs were successfully completed during the school year.

In addition, in June and July, two STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) camps were held, as well as a week of Lahaina Yacht Club junior sailing lessons.

During the last school year, 72 percent of the tutored students made improvements in mathematics and 79 percent made improvements in reading and language arts.

Students in the Lahaina Complex After School Enrichment Tutor Project build rockets.

The Lahaina Complex Education Foundation (LCEF) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, tax-qualified corporation organized to promote innovative and supplementary educational programs for the benefit of students in the Lahaina public schools.

The LCEF thanks People for Educational Equality and many Lahaina organizations and individuals for their continued support to sustain this literacy project.

Volunteers in LCEF's Tutor Project are gearing up for another year of free after-school tutoring for Lahaina students.

An orientation event is planned for Wednesday, Sept. 11, at 6:30 p.m. in the Princess Nahi'ena'ena Elementary School Cafeteria.

Participating students and their parents who have been invited should plan to attend to hear details about the new reading and math programs available this school year. Students will also be able to meet their tutors.

Everyone looks forward to another exciting year of tutoring!
