MAKAWAO - On Sunday, July 21, at 4 p.m., Ebb & Flow Arts will present a concert by renowned modern music pianist Adam Tendler.

The event will take place at Makawao Union Church at 1445 Baldwin Avenue.

"We are delighted to present Adam Tendler for the fifth time in Hawaii," said Robert Pollock, executive director of E&FA.

Adam Tendler is the 2019 recipient of the Lincoln Center Award for Emerging Artists.

Featured works will include George Walker's "Sonata #3," Arthur Berger's "One Part Inventions," Luciano Berio's "Sequenza IV" as well as music by Johanna Beyer, John Cage and Bo Nillson.

A Los Angeles Times writer called Tendler "a remarkable and insightful musician."

Tendler's recital marks the 20th anniversary of Ebb & Flow Arts. It was almost exactly 20 years ago - July 11, 1999 - that its first concert was held at Makawao Union Church.

Admission is free; donations will be accepted.

This event is part of E&FA's annual, multi-day, multi-site, international NORTH SOUTH EAST WEST FESTIVAL 2019.

The festival is produced, in part, with support from Hawaii Tourism Authority's Community Enrichment Program, AHS Foundation, John R. Halligan Charitable Fund, Hawaii State Foundation on Culture and the Arts, Roger Shapiro Fund for New Music, Edward T. Cone Foundation, Amphion Foundation, BMI Foundation, Kosasa Family Foundation (ABC Stores), Mayor Arakawa Community Kokua Fund, Vendetti Productions LLC, Amphion Foundation (NYC) and private contributions.

Ebb & Flow Arts, a nonprofit presenter of modern music and multimedia events, was founded in 1999 by composer/pianist Pollock.

It aims to build bridges between the arts and connect artistic expressions and cultures.

E&FA creates a global soundboard and mirror for music and art in Hawaii. It also teaches children how to read and write music with "Scaling Haleakala," an original curriculum.
