Public invited to attend Rotary Club’s second annual ‘Celebrations’ meeting

KAANAPALI - The Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset invites the public to attend its second annual "Celebrations" meeting on Tuesday, July 16.

The meeting begins with a no-host social at 5 p.m., followed by the "Celebrations" from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

The meeting will be held at The Royal Ocean Terrace Restaurant at Royal Lahaina Resort. Food items are offered from the extensive restaurant menu at a 25 percent discount for meeting attendees.

The activities accomplished to receive these Rotary International District 5,000 Excellence Patches will be shared at the “Celebrations” meeting

The agenda of this meeting will feature a number of celebratory presentations.

The club was awarded Excellence Recognition in the areas of Club Service, Youth Service, International Service and Public Image at a recent district conference of the 52 Rotary Clubs that comprise Rotary District 5,000.

A slide presentation and brief explanations of the criteria for selection will be shown.

The meeting will also feature the presentation of the club's annual Vocational Service Awards.

The Individual Vocational Service Awards will be presented to two individuals who have provided outstanding service to the West Maui community.

The Business Vocational Service Award will be presented to a business that has provided outstanding service to the West Maui community.

This meeting will recognize the recipients of the two "Go for the Green" $2,500 college scholarships and the Hawaii Rotary Youth Foundation $5,000 college scholarship.

Also, President Heidi Dollinger will present special awards to club members selected as The Quiet Rotarian, The Rotary Spirit Award and the Inspirational Award.

The names of the honorees are kept secret until this evening event.

In addition, Assistant District Governor Marti Wukelic will serve as the installation officer for the 2019-20 Board of Directors.

The directors will take their oath of office from Wukelic.

A short presentation will highlight the journey by nine members and guests when they visited the Rotary Club of Yamomoto Maharoba in Nara, Japan.

This club is the sister club to the Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset, and the travelers were treated to special activities to celebrate the five-year anniversary of this vibrant and active Rotary Club.

According to President Dollinger, "Community members are welcome to join us on this special evening and learn about all the great things our club has accomplished.

"'Be the Inspiration' was the Rotary International theme for this past year. We are inspired by all of our members and volunteers who have given their time and talent to make a difference, and we welcome friends, family, visitors and new prospective members and leaders who are interested in becoming involved."

The Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset is one of ten Rotary Clubs located on Maui and Lanai.

Rotary is a leadership organization made up of local business, professional and civic leaders.

Club members meet regularly, get to know each other, form friendships and get things done in our community.
