Lahaina Complex Tutor Project to hold year- end celebration

LAHAINA - The Lahaina Complex Tutor Project is wrapping up its 18th year of tutoring with a celebration on Tuesday, April 9.

The event will be held at the Princess Nahienaena Elementary School Cafeteria starting at 6:30 p.m.

All tutor students, their parents and tutors are invited to attend.

The Lahaina Complex Tutor Project will work with the Maui Science Center to offer two week-long STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) camps in Lahaina in June.

Students will receive awards for their participation in the 20-week program that has covered reading, writing and communication skills, and worked to increase math abilities for practical application.

Individuals who have supported the tutor project will be recognized, and Lahainaluna High School Math Scholarship awardees will be announced.

West and South Maui Sen. Roz Baker will present ten-year commendations to tutors, and the Mahalo Award recipient for 2019 will be recognized.

Plans for the 2019-20 school year tutoring program will also be announced at the event.

Students and parents will hear about the scholarship opportunities that will be available to the students this summer.

The tutor project will again work with the Maui Science Center to bring two week-long STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) camps to Lahaina in June.

New this year will be an opportunity to participate in the Junior Sailing Program run by Lahaina Yacht Club.

To continue the mission of the tutor project, People for Educational Equality will host a fundraiser on Saturday, May 25.

The benefit will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Aina Nalu Pavilion in Lahaina.
