New educational tours offered at Lahaina Heritage Museum

LAHAINA - Lahaina Restoration Foundation is pleased to announce a new, ongoing educational tour program at the Lahaina Heritage Museum in the Old Lahaina Courthouse).

Free guided tours of the museum will now be offered Tuesdays through Thursdays.

These tours will take a comprehensive look at Lahaina's unique history, from ancient Hawaiian life and philosophies, through to Western contact and the Whaling and Plantation Eras.

The days' three tours start on the hour at 10 a.m., 11 a.m. and noon, running for about 45 minutes each.

Guests are asked to meet outside on the makai (ocean-side) steps of the courthouse facing Lahaina Harbor.

Each tour will provide a broad overview of Lahaina history - perfect for visitors or those new to our isles.

But to keep things interesting, each of the day's three installments will emphasize a particular theme:

10 a.m., KE KAI - The Ocean, Voyaging and Ancient Hawaiian Society;

11 a.m., HANA NO'EAU - Master Crafts, Essential Plants and Daily Hawaiian Life;

12 p.m., UA MAU KE EA + CONTACT TO TODAY - The Hawaiian Nation, Western Arrival, Whaling and Plantation Eras.

Although tours are geared toward visitors, residents and kama'aina are also encouraged to participate.
