Christmas parade set for Saturday

December 20, 2018
Lahaina News

LAHAINA - Senior Pastor Laki Kaahumanu of Church on the Go Inc., together with church President Joseph Pluta, recently received approval for the third annual Aloha Christmas Parade in Lahaina.

They have teamed up with Lahaina Rotary Clubs and the Lahaina Rotary Youth Foundation to sponsor this parade on Saturday, Dec. 22, at 10 a.m. Front Street will be closed to motorists from the Baker Street corner to Prison Street at 9:30 a.m. to likely not later than noon.

The parade begins at 10 a.m. at the corner of Papalaua and Front streets (by Outlets of Maui) and proceeds down Front Street to Banyan Tree Park. The parade will include Maui Fire Department, Maui Mayor Alan Arakawa, Kaahumanu as Hawaiian Santa Claus, Lahainaluna High School Marching Band, Rotarians and other dignitaries.

The intent this year is to honor Lahainaluna High School state champions from the football, basketball and wrestling teams. Pluta noted, "The recent LHS football team championship game was truly remarkable with the third victory in a row! What an inspiration these young athletes are to us all in West Maui! They overcame to victory in the last quarter, and overcoming is inspirational! Imua. Lahainaluna!"

Due to permit and liability restrictions, participation in the parade itself is limited to those authorized by Church on the Go Inc. A flyer on the event can be seen at www.churchonthego.us, and more information can be obtained by calling 661-7990 or e-mailing pluta@maui.net.
