The community is the real winner at the Sentry Tournament of Champions

KAPALUA - We get excited this time of year at the Sentry Tournament of Champions. With less than two months until the first tee shot is hit at The Plantation Course at Kapalua, the tournament staff is eagerly preparing to welcome the best golfers in the world for a week of incredible competition, and more importantly, for a week of fun.

But while the prospect of adding another worthy champion's name to the list of winners at the Sentry Tournament of Champions to join the likes of Dustin Johnson, Justin Thomas, Jordan Spieth and Tiger Woods is something to look forward to, what we really get excited about is being able to use the tournament as a platform to make a difference in the community. You may not know, but the Sentry Tournament of Champions, like all events on the PGA Tour, operates as a not-for-profit-organization, with all proceeds going to local charities and other groups. In fact, since 1999, this tournament has given more than $6.3 million to Maui-area charities and worthy organizations - more than 80 organizations in total!

Getting Kapalua ready to make such a difference in the community isn't something that happens overnight, and wouldn't be possible without our volunteer team, who are indispensable in staging a large-scale professional sporting event on Maui, as well as our fans and supporters in the area. This tournament is truly Maui's time to shine, and every year it shines a little brighter.
