Concert to benefit Read Aloud America

October 18, 2018
Lahaina News

WAILUKU - The Coffee House Sessions: Music for a Cause continues on Saturday, Oct. 20, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Wailuku Coffee Company at 26 N. Market St.

Every month, singer-songwriter Kimo Nevius presents a concert at Wailuku Coffee Company to raise money for a different local nonprofit.

Hearkening back to the days of Greenwich Village "basket houses" of the 1960s, there's no cover charge, but the audience is strongly encouraged to donate into the tip jars.

Kimo Nevius (above) will perform with Steve Craig at this month’s session.

Instead of going to the musicians, all funds raised go directly to the selected beneficiary.

At the Oct. 20 Coffee House Session, Nevius will be joined for a return engagement by Steve Craig, one of Maui's most gifted musicians.

Craig's most recent album, "Earth and Sky," is a collection of upbeat original compositions that draw on his deep love of everything from the Beatles to Tom Petty.

The duo will play a combination of their own songs and an eclectic mix of cover songs that range from familiar 1960s and '70s rock to country, blues and folk.

Nevius will also showcase songs from his brand new book/CD called "Rolling Down to Old Maui."

On Oct. 20, the recipient of all donations will be the Read Aloud America Program (RAP).

RAP is a simple, direct family program that?promotes parents reading aloud to children and helps families spend time together, share good books and build a lifelong love of reading.

RAP Programs have been held in every Maui public school since 2009. Programs are currently being held at Hana, Haiku, Princess Nahi'ena'ena and Kula Schools this school year.

Read Aloud America is a nonprofit 501(c)(3); donations received at the concert are tax-deductible.
