Entrepreneurial training course set

WAILUKU - Maui Economic Opportunity's Business Development Center held its Core Four Bankers Graduation Luncheon for 20 graduating students from the Core Four Business Planning Course on Aug. 14.

Attending the luncheon from the Maui County Business Resource Center was Director Karen Arakawa, and from the University of Hawaii Maui College Food Innovation Center, Director Chris Speere.

Both were able to sit with graduates and give feedback and insights into the new businesses presented.

Twenty students graduated from the Core Four Business Planning Course on Aug. 14.

Also at the graduation, the soon-to-be entrepreneurs received one-on-one guidance from local commercial bankers from First Hawaiian Bank and Central Pacific Bank.

The students' business plans and ideas were reviewed and discussed with suggestions and guidance for launching a successful business.

Graduating students received a Certificate of Achievement and a congratulatory lunch.

MEO BDC's Core Four Business Planning is a 36-hour course on how and why you write a business plan while providing real-time information on what you need to know to start, operate and grow a successful business in Maui County.

Those interested in learning more about the entrepreneurial training course can call Maui Economic Opportunity Inc.'s Business Development Center at 249-2990.

The next Core Four course series starting in September will be held during the evening.

One-hour introductory classes will be held at MEO's Family Center on Tuesday, Aug. 28, from 6 to 7 p.m., and at the Maui County Business Resource Center at Maui Mall on Wednesday, Aug. 29, from noon to 1 p.m.

The six-week series begins on Tuesday evening, Sept. 4, and will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. two nights a week through Oct. 11.

The course cost is $300; scholarships are available.

Registration for the six-week series can be done at the introductory classes or any weekday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at MEO's Family Center at 99 Mahalani St. in Wailuku. Funding from the County of Maui Mayor's Office of Economic Development helps to make the classes possible.
