May 31, 2018
Lahaina News

LAHAINA - Lahaina Restoration Foundation will present the duo of Del Beazley and Teresa Bright - both longtime, revered artists in Hawaiian music - for this month's free Hawaiian Music Series concert on Thursday, May 31, from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Perfectly positioned on the front lawn of the Baldwin Home Museum on the corner of Dickenson and Front streets, it's an ideal spot to enjoy Hawaiian music.

Beazley is a three-time Na Hoku Hanohano Award-winning singer, songwriter, composer and arranger. A longtime friend of the late Israel Kamakawiwo'ole, Beazley wrote and composed the famous song "Maui Hawaiian Suppa Man."

Del Beazley is a three-time Na Hoku Hanohano Award-winning singer, songwriter, composer and arranger.

Also a Na Hoku Hanohano Award winner, Bright hails from the windward side of Oahu. She released 15 albums since 1981 and is best known for her recording of "Poliahu," which was Song of the Year in 1991 at the Na Hoku Hanohano Awards.

With a large fan base in Japan, Bright's music has been licensed by major corporate brands such as Toyota, Japan Airlines and Sapporo Beer for use in Japanese television commercials.

Her fan base led her to release an album in 2007, "Hawaiianawa," that features popular Okinawan songs with lyrics translated into Hawaiian.

Now in its tenth year, the Hawaii Tourism Authority and County of Maui Office of Economic Development sponsor the Hawaiian Music Series.

The success of this program is due to residents and visitors who support Hawaiian culture and arts in Lahaina Town through their attendance, appreciation and donations.

Limited seating is provided for kupuna; blankets, mats and low beach chairs are welcome. For more information, call the Lahaina Restoration Foundation office at 661-3262.
