Students to raise awareness of the impacts of climate change
LAHAINA – Thousands of Hawaii students are set to join Blue Planet Foundation on Saturday, April 21, from 9 a.m. to noon for the Blue Line Project, a movement to raise awareness about the impacts of climate change.
Students and community members will join Blue Planet Foundation in drawing blue lines in chalk to mark the sea level rise exposure area at 18 different locations around Hawaii, including sites in Kahului and Kihei.
The event planned in the Lahaina Civic Center parking lot has been canceled.
The sea level rise exposure area was identified by the Hawaii State Climate Commission as the area that is vulnerable to flooding due to high waves, coastal erosion and rising water tables under a 3.2 feet sea level rise scenario.
