A blessing ceremony was held last week in Pukalani to celebrate the completion of Kulamalu Hale, the County of Maui’s workforce housing rental complex. The project encompasses 6 two-story residential buildings and a multipurpose space, and it includes 16 one-bedroom and 40 two-bedroom units in an area located close to community amenities such as shops, parks, schools and businesses. The project will be rented to individuals earning less than 120 percent of the adjusted median income for Maui. The anticipated move-in dates for families are scheduled to begin in September. Kulamalu Hale is the first of several workforce housing projects slated to come online within the next year or two that are currently under construction. There are seven projects that are in active production, encompassing over 500 workforce units in Upcountry, West Maui, South Maui, Haiku and Central Maui. For information about rental opportunities at Kulamalu Hale, contact Hale Mahaolu at 872-4108. PHOTO BY THE COUNTY OF MAUI/RYAN PIROS.

The event is free and open to the public. Cleanup supplies will be provided, but volunteers are also encouraged to bring their own gloves, water bottles, litter grabbers, small nets for cigarette butts, and trucks to haul rubbish and recyclables.

This is a waste-free event; bring a reusable water bottle and reef safe sun protection.

The day will begin at 8 a.m. at Kamehameha Iki Park with coffee and breakfast snacks provided by Ruth's Chris Steak House during check in and as data cards are distributed to participants.

The cleanup will be held from 9 a.m. to noon, followed by lunch for all volunteers provided by Pacific'O and water provided by Tropic Water.

Event sponsors and volunteer teams are needed; visit for information.
