Luna football team to open MIL season

LAHAINA – Lahainaluna High School’s defending Division II Football State Champions will open up their Maui Interscholastic League season on Thursday, Aug. 17, at home at Sue D. Cooley Stadium on campus versus Na Alii of King Kekaulike High School.

Junior varsity action will kick off at 4:30 p.m., and the varsity contest will begin at 7 p.m. Admission is $7, and tickets can be purchased from all team members or at the administration office on campus.

Hoops clinic set

LAHAINA – The Perfect Shot Basketball Clinic with NBA shooting and player development consultant David Nurse and Golden State Warriors Forward James McAdoo will be held on Sept. 9 from 8 a.m. to noon at Lahaina Civic Center.

Registration underway for 36th annual Kapalua Open Tennis Championships

KAPALUA – The award-winning Kapalua Tennis Garden is hosting the 36th annual Kapalua Open Tennis Championships on Sept. 2-4. Each year, tennis players all over the country come to Kapalua for a weekend of fun, great food and prizes.

The Kapalua Open Tennis Championships hosts players in 3.5, 4.0 and Open divisions for singles, doubles, and mixed doubles competition. The entry fee includes a player swag bag with gifts from Kapalua Tennis, Babolat, Wilson, Travis Matthew and other sponsors. Also included is the Player’s Lunch Buffet on Saturday, Sept. 2, from noon to 3 p.m. at Pineapple Grill. Additional family members may purchase a spot at the player’s luncheon for $15 plus tax.

The entry fee is $55 plus tax for one event and $60 plus tax for two events. Tournament registration ends Sunday, Aug. 27, at noon.

Everyone is invited to participate in the silent auction at Pineapple Grill, bidding on items from island hotel stays, restaurant meals and great recreational packages. The proceeds from the silent auction will go to support the USTA Maui District Tennis Association Scholarship Fund, providing travel scholarships to Maui tennis players of all ages for travel to tournaments across the Hawaiian Islands and Mainland.
