Lahaina Intermediate School to hold registration

LAHAINA - Lahaina Intermediate School will hold a SURF (schedule, uniforms, registration, fees) Day on Thursday, July 27, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

If you have a child attending Lahaina Intermediate School for the 2017-18 school year, save the date!

Sesame Street Live “Elmo Makes Music!” is coming to the Maui Arts & Cultural Center’s Castle Theater at 6:30 p.m. on July 21; 10:30 a.m., 2 and 5:30 p.m. on July 22; and 1 and 4:30 p.m. on July 23. When the new music teacher’s instruments go missing, Elmo, Abby Cadabby, Big Bird and more come to the rescue and discover instruments they never knew existed. Children learn that everyone can make and enjoy beautiful music together. Tickets are $15, $22, $35, $50 or $75; call 242-SHOW or visit www.MauiArts.org.

Pick up your child's schedule, purchase uniforms ($8), register (if your child is new to Lahaina and not from King Kamehameha III or Princess Nahi'ena'ena School, register your child), and pay for mandatory fees: $10 student government and $5 class dues (the $25 yearbook is optional).

You may also deposit money into your child's lunch account, and fill out and pay for bus applications.

LAHAINA - Organizers of the West Maui Relay For Life will meet on Thursday, July 27, at 5:30 p.m. at Lahaina Hongwanji Mission, 551 Wainee St.

Come join the team, volunteer, help fundraise and fight back against a disease - cancer - that has an impact on all of us.

Grace Baptist Church to hold Vacation Bible School

LAHAINA - Come join the action at "Over the Moat - A Drawbridge to the King!" on July 24-28.

The free Vacation Bible School will be held at Grace Baptist Church at 164 Fleming Road in Lahaina.

Hours are 9 a.m. to noon. Bring your friends ages four through high school to enjoy exciting Bible stories, songs, puppets, snacks, crafts and a missionary story.

The closing program will be held Friday night at 7 p.m.

Event to support Assistance Dogs of Hawaii

KAHANA - Maui Brewing Co. at Kahana Gateway will host another "Wag Your Tails for Maui Ales!" event on Friday, July 28, from 6 to 10 p.m.

A portion of the proceeds from Maui Brewing Co. beers sold will be donated to Assistance Dogs of Hawaii. ADH provides people with physical disabilities and special needs with specially trained dogs, giving them the freedom and confidence to live more independent lives.

Hotel hosts free presentations on history

KAPALUA - "A Sense of Place," an honest look into Hawaii's history from 1778 to the present through the eyes and lens of Dr. Elizabeth Kapu'uwailani Lindsey's award-winning film "Then There Were None," is held Fridays at 10 a.m. in The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua's Hotel Theater.

Attendees are invited to get involved in a discussion on how to move Hawaii into the future while paying tribute to the past. A short walk to the borders of the Honokahua Preservation Site will focus on its significance in terms of the Hawaiian renaissance and events that set many precedents and laws into action.

The event is complimentary to the community and visitors.

Flatbread Company to host benefit night

PAIA - The Flatbread Company in Paia is hosting a benefit night for the Maui Forest Bird Recovery Project on Tuesday, Aug. 1, from 5 to 10 p.m.

Get one of the many flatbreads at Flatbread Company, and a portion of the profits will go to the conservation of Maui's native birds. There will also be a small silent auction full of fun bird items, gift certificates and local art.

Maui Forest Birds is dedicated to the conservation and research of rare and endangered bird species on Maui.
