LHS School Community Council seeks members

LAHAINA - The Lahainaluna High School Community Council seeks new members.

School Community Councils are forums for exchanging ideas in order to improve student achievement among the school's stakeholders: principals, teachers, school staff, parents, students and community members.

Enthusiastic and fit hikers are sought for a service trip with the Friends of Haleakala National Park in Haleakala Crater on Independence Day weekend. Volunteers will stay at Paliku Cabin Sunday and Monday nights and perform tasks related to native species protection. They will hike out Tuesday up the Switchback Trail. Anyone interested in serving on the Lahainaluna High School SCC Board as a community representative should submit his or her name via e-mail to Ashley_Olson@notes.k12.hi.us or Shannon_Eustace@notes.k12.hi.us.

Members must commit to attend a monthly meeting, currently scheduled on the first Wednesday at 5 p.m. in the LHS Library.

Meetings are open to the public. If you would like to present at a meeting, contact Shannon Eustace or

Ashley Olson to be added to the agenda.

Maui Humane Society seeks immediate short-term foster homes for dogs

PUUNENE - Maui Humane Society (MHS) has an urgent need for short-term foster homes for dogs.

With dogs coming in almost daily, the kennels are starting to get uncomfortably crowded.

Maui Humane Society will provide all supplies and information needed to become a foster. Please consider opening up your heart and home to a shelter dog.

MECO Rummage Sale to support Maui United Way

KAHULUI - Maui Electric is hosting its annual Rummage Sale benefitting Maui United Way on Saturday, June 17, from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. at its Kahului auditorium located at 210 W. Kamehameha Avenue.

The public is also welcome to donate any new or gently used household items for the sale starting on Thursday, June 15, to Friday, June 16, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The public can call 872-3216 to coordinate drop-offs during this time.

All proceeds from the sale will benefit Maui United Way, a nonprofit organization that raises and invests corporate and individual donations in 33 health and human services partner agencies and 34 programs to benefit our Maui County community.

Ewing receives degree from University of the Sciences

PHILADELPHIA, PA - Nicole Ewing of Lahaina was among the graduates recognized during University of the Sciences' 196th commencement celebration on May 24 in Philadelphia.

Ewing graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Medical Laboratory Science.

Massachusetts Reunion set

KIHEI - A Massachusetts Reunion and Potluck will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 25, at Kamaole Beach Park III in Kihei.

Attendees are encouraged to bring a Massachusetts potluck dish; wear a Massachusetts, Red Sox, Patriots or Celtics T-shirt; and speak Bostonian. A Massachusetts trivia contest will be on the agenda. Prizes will be awarded. For more information, call 280-1299.
