Rising stars of Hawaiian music to play free concert in Lahaina

LAHAINA - Kuaola will perform at Lahaina Restoration Foundation's free monthly Hawaiian Music Series concert on Thursday, March 30, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in front of the Baldwin Home Museum at the corner of Dickenson and Front streets in Lahaina.

Similar to a verdant mountain where life thrives and grows, Kuaola, a trio of talented young men, are fast becoming rising stars on the local music scene.

The Kuaola Trio — from left, Kalani Librando-Souza, Nalu Robinson and Shem (Kema) Kahawaii — will play a free concert on Thursday, March 30, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in front of the Baldwin Home Museum.

Kalani Librando-Souza, ukulele player and falsetto vocalist, who graduated from King Kekaulike High School in 2013 and the University of Hawaii Maui College Institute of Hawaiian Music in 2015;

Nalu Robinson, bass player from Wailuku, who graduated from H.P. Baldwin High School in 2014;

Shem (Kema) Kahawaii, slack key guitarist, who graduated from King Kekaulike High School in 2014 and is enrolled in UH Maui College's Institute of Hawaiian Music.

Kuaola performs regularly at Queen Ka'ahumanu Center and the Grand Wailea Resort, entertains at community festivals under the Banyan Tree in Lahaina and in Hana, and plays at various fundraisers and local parties.

The trio has opened concerts for Ikaika Blackburn, Raiatea Helm and George Kahumoku.

Limited seating is provided on the lawn; blankets, mats and low beach chairs are welcome.
