KAANAPALI - Learn how to monitor water quality from your living room with speaker Mark Deakos on Tuesday, March 29, at the Royal Lahaina Resort.

Part of the Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset's ongoing conservation series, Deakos will give a talk on the technological advances in water quality control.

Deakos has a Master's Degree and a Ph.D. from the University of Hawaii. In 2004, he founded The Hawaii Association for Marine Education and Research (HAMER), a not-for-profit corporation with the mission to better understand and protect Hawaii's marine resources.

Aside from his continued involvement to learn about and protect manta rays in Hawaii, Deakos is the deputy program manager for HDR, managing the Navy's Protected Species Monitoring Program in the Pacific. He is also an active member of various community groups working toward solutions to some of our greatest environmental threats.

The Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset's community speaker series takes place on the first, third and fifth Tuesday of the month at the Royal Lahaina Resort from 5 to 6:30 p.m. All are welcome to attend.
