Lahaina Arts Society featuring works by two artists

By Staff | Jan 14, 2016

Earl Thompson’s show is titled “Peek into the Surreal.”

LAHAINA – Anyes Barber is the featured artist in Lahaina Arts Society’s Old Jail Gallery in the Old Lahaina Courthouse through Jan. 31.

Born in France, Barber grew up helping with her family’s lavender farm.

“This exhibit consists of some various multimedia pieces which Maui inspired me to create in the past three years. My love for this land and the water surrounding it emanates from my work,” she said.

“I consider myself a spiritual person and like to incorporate mystical figures for whom needs inspiration and willpower on their journey.”

Local artist Earl Thompson is exhibiting original artwork in Lahaina Arts Society’s Banyan Tree Gallery through Feb. 2.

Anyes Barber turned a surfboard into a work of art with her “Mother Love.

“Peek into the Surreal” is a follow-up to last year’s very successful “There might be Dragons” show.

Living and creating his works on Maui, Thompson has no limits to what his soul decides to project onto various media.

Formally trained at the University of Oklahoma’s Ford Art Center, he has decades of experience and knowledge in many media. Currently focusing on painting, bold bright works convey his vision.

Thompson works on a multitude of media – from wood to canvas to metals. If it has a surface, he will find a way to paint on it. From skateboards to sheet metal aluminum, everything is a possibility.

Known for dropping the outline of the Hawaiian Islands into his pieces, Thompson blends nature with fantasy and creates unique, beautiful artwork that hangs in homes the world over.
