Kapalua Golf Courses appoints new head professional

KAPALUA – Kapalua Golf Courses announced the appointment of Ryan Michimoto as the new head professional for The Bay Course.

He will oversee day-to-day operations, staffing and planning for The Bay Course, one of Hawaii’s top-ranked courses.

Michimoto has a long history with Kapalua Golf. He started working at Kapalua at 14 as a caddie and served as an outside guest service staff member during the summers in college.

After graduating from college, Michimoto worked at Bank of Hawaii before returning to Kapalua Golf in 2007.

Most recently, he was employed by Troon Golf at Whirlwind Golf Club in Arizona as the club’s tournament coordinator.

Michimoto said, “Thank you to Mike Jones and Troon Golf for this opportunity. To be able to return to home with my family into the open arms of my extended family is a dream come true. I am very excited for this opportunity and cannot wait to be with my Kapalua ‘ohana.”

A Maui boy, Michimoto graduated from Lahainaluna High School in 2001.

He graduated from the University of Hawaii at Manoa in 2005 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics.

“We are very pleased to welcome Ryan back to the Kapalua Golf ‘ohana,” said Mike Jones,” general manager/director of golf.

“He has proven himself to be a leader within the Troon Golf organization while on the Mainland, and we look forward to all that he will continue to accomplish here at Kapalua.”
