Hula Grill to host ‘Night Before Halloween Costume Contest’

Almost 30 keiki participated in the 17th annual Maui Youth Ukulele Contest at Hula Grill.

KAANAPALI – On Wednesday, Oct. 30, Hula Grill Kaanapali will offer all costumed customers 25 percent off food during its free “Night Before Halloween Costume Contest.”

The fun, family friendly Halloween event kicks-off with a keiki costume contest at 6 p.m., followed by an adult contest at 7:30 p.m.

The winner in the adult category will win a deluxe two-person helicopter tour from Air Maui.

The winner in the keiki category will receive a gift card for toys. All keiki entrants will receive a candy bag.

“We invite everyone to get into the Halloween spirit with our annual costume contest,” said General Manager Orrin Cross. “It’s great fun for all ages!”

Hula Grill Kaanapali is located in Whalers Village.

In related news, nearly 30 contestants participated in Hula Grill Kaanapali’s recent 17th annual Maui Youth Ukulele Contest.

Coming out on top in the three solo divisions and one group division were: Elementary School Division – Healani KaneKoa of Princess Nahi’ena’ena Elementary School; Middle School Division – Anthony Pfluke, home schooled; High School Division – Kaulike Pescaia, Kamehameha Schools Maui; Group Division – Makanahele Emmsley of Kalama Intermediate, Katie Jacintho of Maui High School and Kaya Givensel of Seabury Hall.

Contestants were judged on a brief introduction, ukulele performances (strumming, rhythm and picking), singing and stage presence, off stage attitude, originality and keeping within a six-minute time limit.

The contest was sponsored by KoAloha Ukuleles, KPOA and Local Motion, with additional support provided by Kimo’s Restaurant, Leilani’s on the Beach, Duke’s Beach House, Ulalena, Leoda’s Kitchen and Pie Shop, Trilogy Excursions and Maui Ocean Center.
