Event to benefit Lahaina Tutoring Program
LAHAINA - "Dollars for Scholars" is set for May 27 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Aina Nalu in Lahaina.
Featuring wine, pupus, live music and a silent auction, the event will support the Lahaina Tutoring Program.
West Maui resident Hamish Burgess has his first island showing of his Celtic art in the Hawaiian Village Coffee Shop in Kahana Gateway Center. There will be an artist’s reception open to the public on Saturday, May 18, from 6 to 8 p.m., with a Celtic music session and bagpiping. Fashion show set
LAHAINA - Passion 4 Fashion Boutique's Summer Stylin' Fashion Show will be held on Saturday, May 18, at 11 p.m. at Lulu's Lahaina Surf Club & Grill at Lahaina Cannery Mall.
There will be a music and video mix by Deejay Big Mike and prize giveaways throughout the night.
Body in Balance to host book signing party
LAHAINA - Body in Balance of Lahaina will hold a book signing party with Julie Corrine Audino, author of "Finding Your Piece," on Friday, May 24, from 5 to 7 p.m.

Co-op Day slated
KAANAPALI - The Lahaina Food Co-op will hold a membership drive and fundraiser on Saturday, May 18, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 78 S. Iwa Place in Kaanapali.
Local organic supplements and refreshments will be available. A lunch recipe demonstration will be held at noon, the film "Genetic Roulette" will be screened at 4 p.m. and a dinner recipe demonstration is set for 5 p.m.
Dr. Brendan Krause will offer chiropractic demonstrations from 10 to 11 a.m., followed by Dr. Nancy Lins (naturopathy) from 11 a.m. to noon, William Smith (Hawaiian natural healing) from 1 to 2 p.m., and Ken Krumpe (Vedic astrology/medical astrology at 2 p.m., and Ayurveda: body types, daily routine and diet at 3 p.m.).

Gardening classes slated in Lahaina
LAHAINA - The Home Gardening Support Network is holding classes in May at Lahaina Civic Center.
All classes are set for 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The schedule is: May 15, Creating Edible Landscapes; May 22, Vegetable Disease Control; and May 29, Body Smart Gardening.

Volunteer in Haleakala Park
HALEAKALA - The Friends of Haleakala National Park offers the public three opportunities each year to experience a trip through Haleakala Crater over a long holiday weekend while learning about and helping to preserve and protect Haleakala National Park.

Community loses Shirley Ann Kaha'i
WAILUKU - Shirley Ann Kaha'i, 60, of Wailuku, passed away on April 23, 2013 at Casa Grande Regional Medical Center in Arizona.
She was born on Aug. 3, 1952 in Wailuku.
Services were held on May 11.
Kaha'i was the program director of the Friends of Moku'ula in Lahaina.
She is survived by her mother, Louise Medeiros; stepfather, Peter Keau; son, Brandon Kaha'i; hanai daughter, Anabelle Paet; hanai grandson, Damien Paet Dumayas; sister, Bernadine Kauweloa; brothers, James (Marilyn) Medeiros, Joseph Kaha'i Jr., and Matthew (Maria) Keau; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Joseph Kaha'i Sr.
