West Maui Lions to host fashion show fundraiser

KAPALUA - The West Maui Lions Club of Lahaina will host its third annual scholarship fundraiser, "Fashions and Fun," at The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua on Saturday, June 1, from 6 to 9 p.m.

The evening will include a fashion show, live and silent auctions, dancing and live entertainment. Funds raised from this event will benefit both Lahainaluna High School and Maui Preparatory Academy graduates.

Lahainaluna High School celebrated its 44th annual David Malo Day Ho‘olaule‘a on Saturday. The community was treated to hula performances and songs by the Hawaiiana Club and Boarders’ Chorus. Boarding Department staff prepared the ono laulau dinner. Members of the LHS Class of 1963 celebrated their 50th Reunion at the event and donated a gift of over $7,000 to the Boarding Department. DMVL Lahaina satellite office to remain open during construction

WAILUKU - The Lahaina satellite office of the Division of Motor Vehicles and Licensing (DMVL) will remain open for business for the next couple of weeks despite ongoing construction in the area.

The office will stay open until May 3 at its current location at Lahaina Center off Front Street. After May 3, the office will relocate to the Lahaina Gateway Center.

Rain garden workshop set

KAHULUI - The Sustainable Living Institute of Maui (SLIM) at the University of Hawaii Maui College, Water Institute for Sustainability Education and Roth Ecological Design International LLC will present a free two-day workshop, "Rain Gardens: A Free Workshop on Design and Creation," for K-12 educators, school garden coordinators, county representatives and the interested public.

On Saturday and Sunday, April 27-28, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., attendees will learn about rain gardens and how they can be applied as tools in the management of storm water.

The second day will be completely hands-on, as attendees learn teaching strategies while helping with the installation of a rain garden in the new SLIM UHMC Community Garden.

Rummage Sale set

WAILUKU - On Saturday, May 4, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., Neighbors Helping Neighbors will hold a bargain-hunters' dream Rummage Sale in the Baldwin High School Cafeteria.

Shop for bargain furniture, clothing, books, household goods, baked goods and more.

Proceeds will benefit Neighbors Helping Neighbors' Aloha Cruisers senior transportation program.

Foundation to hold Summer Ocean Camp

MAALAEA - Adventure, discovery, field trips, scientific investigation, art, fun and ocean advocacy will all be part of the program for campers at Pacific Whale Foundation's Ocean Camp this summer.

The summer session takes place from May 28 to July 26 and is open to children entering grades K-5.

Ocean Camp is located at PWF's air-conditioned Discovery Center in Maalaea. It's staffed by friendly, enthusiastic and energetic professionals with years of teaching and summer camp experience.
