Top deckmen in Lahaina Harbor for 2012

LAHAINA - Of the 17 deckmen, non-captains, that work the charter sportfishing boats in Lahaina Harbor, Top Deckman and Rookie of the Year honors go to Christopher Douglas.

While working the Start Me Up Again, which was the Top Boat in 2012, he weighed five blue marlin (tied for most blues) weighing 1,795.3 pounds (second highest blue weight). His largest marlin weighed 601.8 and 437.6 pounds.

He also weighed three striped marlin (third most) totaling 142.4 pounds (third highest striped weight) and three spearfish totaling 91 pounds.

This gave Christopher a total of 11 billfish weighed (tied for third most) totaling 2,028.7 pounds (second highest total billfish weighed).

Christopher also released four blue marlin (most) estimated at 675 pounds (most estimated blue weight). This gave him a total of nine blue marlin (highest total blue captured) weighing 2,470.3 pounds (highest total blue capture weight).

His four striped marlin released (most) weighed an estimated 120 pounds (highest striped release weight). He also released one spearfish estimated at 35 pounds. This gave him a total of nine billfish released (most released) estimated at 830 pounds (highest estimated total release weight).

Christopher's 20 billfish captured (highest total billfish captured) weighed 2,858.7 pounds (highest total capture weight). Congratulations to Christopher!

Taking the second place spot was deckman Jimmy Francis. He weighed four blue marlin (three-way tie for third most) totaling 1,979.8 pounds (highest blue weight). His largest marlin weighed 760.3 (second largest), 536.4 and 533.1 pounds.

He also weighed two striped marlin weighing 73 pounds and two spearfish weighing 50 pounds.

This gave Jimmy a total of eight billfish weighed (fifth most weighed and sixth most captured) totaling 2,102.8 pounds (highest total billfish weight and second highest total capture weight). He also weighed a 158.8 pound yellowfin ahi.

At third spot was deckman Sean Hudson. He weighed five blue marlin (most blue weighed) totaling 1,727.7 pounds (third highest blue weight). His largest marlin were 450.6 and 419.4 pounds.

He also weighed one striped marlin totaling 40 pounds and three spearfish totaling 116.3 pounds.

This gave Sean a total of nine billfish weighed (fourth most weighed and fifth most captured) totaling 1,884.0 pounds (third highest total billfish weight and capture weight).

Finishing in fourth was deckman John Keiley. He weighed three blue marlin (third most) weighing 1,202.8 pounds (fourth highest blue weight). His largest marlin weighed 535.3 and 450.1 pounds.

He also weighed one striped marlin weighing 40.7 pounds and five spearfish (second most) totaling 163.8 pounds (second highest total weight).

John also weighed two sailfish (record for single day) totaling 110.2 pounds (highest total sail weight).

This gave John a total of 11 billfish weighed (third most) totaling 1,517.5 pounds (fourth highest total billfish weighed).

He also released a striped marlin estimated at 20 pounds. This gave John a total of 12 billfish captured (tied for fourth most) totaling 1,537.5 pounds (fourth highest capture weight).

Rounding out the top five deckmen was Chris Wong. He weighed two blue marlin totaling 721.5 pounds - the largest at 522.4 pounds.

He also weighed six striped marlin (most) totaling 339.3 pounds (highest striped weight). He also weighed four spearfish (tied for third most) weighing 126 pounds.

This gave Chris a total of 12 billfish weighed (second most) totaling 1,186.8 pounds (fifth highest total billfish weighed).

He also released one blue marlin estimated at 200 pounds, giving him a total capture of three blues (tied for fourth most blues captured) weighing 921.5 pounds (fifth highest blue capture weight).

Chris released two striped marlin estimated at 55 pounds. This gave him a total capture of eight striped marlin (most striped captured) totaling 394.3 pounds (highest striped capture weight).

This gave Chris a total of three billfish released (third most billfish released) weighing a total of 255 pounds (second highest estimated release weight).

He had a total of 15 billfish captured (second highest) totaling 1,441.8 pounds (fifth highest total capture weight). He also weighed the largest yellowfin ahi of the year at 222.2 pounds.

Deckman Andy Payne weighed two blue marlin weighing 565.9 pounds. His five striped marlin (second most) totaled 178.8 pounds (second highest weight). He also weighed six spearfish (most) totaling 170 pounds (highest spearfish weight).

This gave Andy a total of 13 billfish weighed (third most weighed) totaling 914.7 pounds. He also weighed a 158.8-pound yellowfin ahi.
