LAHAINA - The Lahaina Complex After School Tutoring Project will hold four Achievement Awards Celebrations this month.

Tutors, students and their parents, school staff and special guests are invited to participate in the celebrations from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 12, at Lahaina Intermediate School; Wednesday, March 13, at Princess Nahi'ena'ena School; and Thursday, March 14, at King Kamehameha III School.

Grade level Achievement Awards and the program will begin at 6:30 p.m., followed by a light supper and a brief program at 7:15 p.m. in each school's cafeteria. Tutors, students and their parents, site administrators and Lahaina sponsors will be congratulated and thanked for another successful tutoring year.

The first celebration was held on March 5, when Lahainaluna High School seniors in the project who tutored fourth-graders from Princess Nahi'ena'ena and King Kamehameha III schools received Achievement Awards and enjoyed a pizza party.

Of the 37 seniors who participated, the highest Achievement Awards for the most years of tutoring and for outstanding performance were awarded to nine tutors. Abigail Haduca and Vincent Magno received the two top honors, followed by Ryan Arakaki, Ivy Tejada, Andrew Espiritu, Leslie Garo, Amanda Matsuda, Mailia Refamonte and Vincent Sarian.

All 37 seniors received Achievement Awards. "Congratulations winners, and thank you for your splendid tutoring service," noted program Coordinators Pat and Richard Endsley.

They also thanked the Grade 4 Mathematics Team comprised of Jeanne Smyth, Harriet Ota, Arleen Gerbig, Carol Inaba, Rodney Mederois, Janice Owens and Nancy Blake, and the LHS administrative team of Principal Emily DeCosta, Ashley Olson, Barbi Otomo, Art Fillazar and Ray Camacho "for their extra effort in supporting the project.

"Lahaina, Maui is indeed a No Ka 'Oi town on a No Ka 'Oi island."
