Does litter bug you?

Lahaina News

Tired of seeing trash at your favorite beach or around your neighborhood?

If litter bugs you, do something about it on Saturday, July 21.

Volunteers throughout Maui County will set out to clean and beautify roads, highways, parks, harbors, beaches and "Adopt-a-Sites" on Saturday during Community Work Day Program's annual "Litter Bugs Me" cleanup.

The effort is coordinated in partnership with state and county agencies, local businesses, schools and community groups to help remove ugly litter from Maui Nui's beautiful environment.

CWD coordinates "Litter Bugs Me" to focus attention on the appearance of roadways, natural resource areas and public spaces.

Community Work Day has scheduled multiple cleanup sites in each district, including West Maui. Join an Adopt-a-Site group or start your own by coordinating a site of your choice.

The cleanup will begin at 8:30 a.m. and end before noon. To volunteer, or to make arrangements to pick up free supplies - litter grabbers, trash bags, vests and gloves, or paint and supplies for graffiti removal - call Community Work Day Program at 877-2524.

In conjunction with the cleanup, CWD is also organizing a Paint Exchange Event on July 21 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Join fellow community members for this free event that keeps usable paint out of our landfill.

Drop off your usable paint at CWD Headquarters in Puunene. Paint will be offered for reuse for free. Usable paint is also accepted and recycled daily during regular business hours on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Call 877-2524 for directions and information.
