Segway Experience Center of Maui offers tours

By Staff | Jun 21, 2012

Segway riders take a tour of Lahaina.

LAHAINA – Segway Experience Center of Maui – the island’s only Segway dealership offering sales and service of Segway Personal Transporters – is open in Lahaina.

The store also offers guided Segway tours in partnership with other activities in locations throughout the island.

The center provides a training class and typically one- or two-hour ride experiences.

“We are excited to bring the Segway PT experience to the island of Maui,” said Andrea Havranek, co-owner of the center.

“When my husband and I moved here to spend a life in the beauty and serenity of the islands of Hawaii, we were immediately surprised to see the traffic and congestion. Our goal was to bring something to the table to provide another alternative to fossil fuel-burning vehicles.”

Husband and co-owner Tom Havranek said, “We know some people will want to experience riding a Segway PT, and the tourists that come to the island will love it as well. It’s an experience everyone should try at least once.”

The Segway PT offers riders the ability to charge the unit with less than 20 cents of electricity and provide a range of up to 24 miles on a single charge.

According to the owners, in addition to providing a green alternative to daily commuters and errand runners, the Segway PT can be an invaluable tool for law enforcement, security and many other types of large and small businesses.

Located at 991 Limahana Place, the 1,200-square-foot store will feature a full range of models, including the Segway i2 and x2. Both models feature Leansteer Technology that allows riders to control all aspects of movement by the direction they move their body.
