LAHAINA - The second annual Legends of Lahainaluna Awards ceremony will be held on Thursday, Nov. 15, at the Pioneer Inn. Nominations for this prestigious award are being accepted through Aug. 31.
The award has been created by the Lahainaluna High School Foundation to honor individuals and/or businesses that have significantly contributed to the success of the school, or to alumni that have gone on to make important contributions to their community.
The inaugural honorees were Henry "Bruno" Ariyoshi, who served as principal, athletic director and coach at Lahainaluna; Bobby Kawaguchi, also a Luna coach, athletic director and Parent Community Networking Center facilitator; and The Westin Maui Resort and Spa, in recognition of its contributions to the success of the Luna Athletic Field project.

Last year's nomination list read like a "who's who" in the rich history of Lahainaluna, including school stadium benefactor Sue Cooley, Pedro Haro, Lori Gomez Karinen, Art Fillazar, Clifton Akiyama and Dr. Charles Araki.
LHS Foundation Development Coordinator Jeff Rogers reported that the nomination format has been changed to include three categories: Individual, Posthumous, and Business.
"There will be one winner in each category, and one person can nominate one person, with their permission, through the end of August," Rogers explained.
He added, "All seemed to be pleased with last year's event, and everybody had a phenomenal time with ESPN's Neil Everett on hand as master of ceremonies. We were packed last year, and we expect to sell out of the limited seating this year. We also hope to get more nominees this year, starting now through the end of August."
Preceding the deadline for nominations, the foundation will host an online auction. Item donors are sought.
The foundation asks supporters to help obtain contact information for potential donors. Auction items can be of any type, from anywhere, as the online event will be marketed nationally.
For more information, or to download the official nomination form and/or auction donation form, visit the foundation's website at www.lahainalunahighschoolfoundation.org, e-mail email@example.com or write to Lahainaluna High School Foundation, P.O. Box 11617, Lahaina, HI 96761.
"All nominations must be made from our online form, and please submit a head shot photo within digital media. We need community help with the auction to add to the long list of items we currently have. We need more," Rogers said.
"Mahalo to all, and especially to all who helped make last year's event such a resounding success," he concluded.
