The Maui community will gather on Saturday, Nov. 19, to raise awareness of a silent killer and help save lives.

With the goal of speaking up on heart disease - the number one killer of women - the second annual Hawaii Go Red For Women Luncheon is slated for 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Fairmont Kea Lani in Wailea. This year's theme is "Renew!"

"Together the women of Go Red can bring a voice to this silent killer to help save lives. We can listen to what our hearts are telling us, talk to our doctors and spread the word to our friends and community about making the right choices and taking action," noted event organizers with the American Heart Association-Maui.

The event will feature breakout sessions to get inspired and informed. Join health and fitness experts, medical professionals and women like you to learn concrete steps you can take today to improve heart health.

Attendees can also learn about the Maui Go Red for Women Ambassadors, who are taking information about heart disease into the community; shop in the silent auction; gain cooking, health and beauty tips; and check your heart "numbers" in health screenings.

This year's Go Red chair, Karin Harris, wrote, "This day is all about renewing our awareness of health, renewing our knowledge and renewing choices for prevention for every woman, every day. One in three women have, and will, suffer from their heart health, more than the next five causes of death combined... but we can make new choices."
