Community welcome to join in Lahaina Royal Ho‘ike

October 27, 2011
BY PAULO FALEAFINE JR. - The Royal Hawaiian Guard , Lahaina News

LAHAINA - Be a part of history as we perpetuate Lahaina's Royal Legacy.

Join in celebrating the Lahaina Royal Ho'ike 2011, an event dedicated to honoring Lahaina's royal legacy and the birthday of a prominent Crowned Ali'i. This year, we look to celebrate the 175th birthday of His Majesty King Kalakaua, Hawai'i's last reigning King and renaissance man responsible for preserving and perpetuating much of Hawai'i's culture and history.

There is still time for you to help! We are still accepting silent auction items, donations, vendors, entertainers and members of the community interested in partaking in the Ho'okupu ceremony at the royal tombs.

We choose to conduct a public Ho'okupu (offering) ceremony, so that the community can take part in a special protocol honoring Hawai'i's Ali'i and to bring awareness to the royal tombs and the restoration and perpetuation projects surrounding them. The importance of restoring Lahaina's royal image is critical, as it provides a proud identity as a source of strength to the people of Hawai'i.

This year, funds received will benefit The Royal Hawaiian Guard-Hawai'i's first and only Royal Honor Guard since 1893, and Na Kia'i O Waine'e, a subcommittee of Waiola Church charged with the mission to perpetuate and protect the Waine'e Royal Tombs and Cemetery.

For more information about this event, please visit www.royalhawaiianguard.com or call me with the Royal Hawaiian Guard at (808) 250-9196.

A hui hou e malama pono!
