Maui high school bands rally for Japan relief efforts

August 4, 2011
Lahaina News
LAHAINA — The Hard Rock Cafe in Lahaina recently hosted a “Jam for Japan” benefit concert organized by thoughtful Maui Preparatory Academy National Honor Society students.

Students from Lahainaluna High School, Seabury Hall and Maui Prep entertained a standing room only crowd that generated more than $2,500 for the American Red Cross-Japan Relief.

Devon Bloss, graduating Maui Prep senior, and teacher Vania Jerome were the project leaders for the fund-raiser.

The students worked with Marketing Manager Jill Holley of Hard Rock Cafe to advertise, produce T-shirts, host a silent auction and collect a recommended donation at the door for the Japan Tsunami victims.

All profits from the event have been donated to the Japan Disaster Relief Fund.

Maui Prep and Hard Rock Café extend a heartfelt thank you to the entertainers that rocked the house for the cause: “B Block” Rock from Seabury Hall, Better than Nothing from Lahainaluna, 7 AM from Maui Preparatory Academy, XYZ Affair (a student ensemble) and Camp Savage, a Lahaina local band.
