American Savings Bank (ASB) will award $100,000 to the one school in the state that opens the most new checking accounts before Friday, Nov. 26.
Sacred Hearts School Development Director Joanna Stockham is leading the charge.
“Last year, Sacred Hearts School took second place in the state by opening 115 new checking accounts for our families. I realized we couldn’t possibly repeat that performance so soon, so I shifted my efforts to the high school,” she explained.
There are three ways to earn money for the Lunas.
Every new account that completes five signature-based transactions with their debit card, or establishes direct deposit, will be awarded $25 to contribute.
The top school in Maui County that opens the most new bank accounts will earn $10,000.
And the grand prize of $100,000 will be awarded to the school that’s tops for the highest number of accounts opened statewide.
At press time, the race is tight on Maui. Lahainaluna is tied with Christ the King for first place in the island-wide contest with 19 new bank accounts. Maui High School and King Kekaulike are close behind with 17 new accounts.
For the big statewide prize, Kapaa High School on Kauai has 33 accounts, and McKinley High School on Oahu has 37.
“With community and alumni support, there is a good chance that we can still win this,” said Stockham. “Support the Lunas by opening a checking account at American Savings Bank today!”
LHS Principal Emily DeCosta has agreed to allow each club, team, class or department on campus to use this ASB promotion as a fund-raiser. When you open your new account, just tell the bank where you want your $25 contribution to go.
Support your favorite school programs and help push Lahainaluna over the top.
