Up Front Lahaina

October 28, 2010
Lahaina News
... Well, congratulations to LAHAINA RESTORATION FOUNDATION and THEO MORRISON in particular for a spectacularly successful “LAHAINA PLANTATION DAYS” event. Kudos to the LRF staff, board of directors and volunteers, all of whom pitched in. The food was ono, the entertainment great, as were the crowds on both nights. Traffic was a little congested, but that will disappear when the bypass is finished. LAHAINA does it again!!...

... and this weekend we have HALLOWEEN, and the Police Department has decided not to close FRONT STREET — bad decision!!! But the crowds will still come, and they’ll have a good time in spite of the fact that the powers-that-be at City Hall are trying to throw a kibosh on the party. But the Halloween festivities will prevail! And a Happy Halloween to all the participants...

... the 32nd annual Keiki Halloween Costume Parade will start at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday at Papalaua Street. Front Street will be closed for that...

... and LAHAINATOWN ACTION COMMITTEE will have their Halloween event at the former Lahaina Store Oyster Bar location for teens in grades 8-12 from 6 to 10 p.m., featuring deejays, dancing and a costume competition with great prizes! Admission is $10. While downstairs in the former “Cellar” location, the adults will have music and prizes, and the no-host bar will be open. Halloween in Lahaina will proceed!!!

... and down at THE WHARF CINEMA CENTER, the sixth annual Keiki Karaoke Contest and 27th GHOULISH GALA Karaoke Contest will be held. The keiki will sing from 6 to 7 p.m., and the costumed adults start at 7 p.m. Also head to the Haunted House Oct. 27-31...

... last Thursday, the WEST MAUI TAXPAYERS ASSOCIATION held their traditional pre-election candidate debate. It was well-attended, with a few candidates missing due to conflicts with schedules. The format was a little different this year, but there’s no harm in trying something new. Councilman MIKE VICTORINO got put of a sick bed to attend, and his resounding sexy baritone sounded like he was wooing the crowd — which, I suppose, in a way he was. But mahalo to WMTA for hosting the event...

... and the stargazers have found another Goldilocks planet similar to our own — now to find out what’s on it...

... and back on terra firma, I see where Police Chief GARY YABUTA has scheduled town meetings throughout the county, but they are still working on a schedule for Lahaina. And guess what will be topic number one...

... and next Tuesday is Election Day — remember, “No vote no grumble!” So get out there and vote!!!...
