Support local businesses at ‘Final Friday’ in Lahaina

By Staff | Sep 24, 2009

Chinatown in Honolulu and Wailuku Town generate excitement and lure residents and visitors into the area through “First Friday” events.

Featuring art shows, free entertainment and restaurant specials, these events provide a boost to businesses and give residents a fun way to kick off the weekend.

Matt Lane and LahainaTown Action Committee thought, “Why not do it here in Lahaina?”

An evolution of “Friday Night is Art Night,” Lahaina Town’s fete will be called “Final Friday.” It will debut Sept. 25 and take place the last Friday of the month for the rest of the year.

Come to Front Street from 5 to 6 p.m. on Friday Night for Early Bird cocktail and dinner specials at all of the participating restaurants: Santa Fe Cantina, Kimo’s, Lahaina Coolers, Ruth’s Chris Steak House, Lahaina Fish Company, Longhi’s, Hard Rock Cafe, Kobe Japanese Steak House, Betty’s Beach Cafe and Mai Tai Lounge. The Melting Pot and ‘Aina Gourmet Market are also supporting “Final Friday.”

While strolling musicians play outside along Front Street, art galleries will host receptions with world-renowned artists and offer free dessert samples.

In future “Final Fridays,” Lane and LAC may invite talented local youth to play music and paint live in front of certain galleries. That’s a great way to involve the community in the event and bring families into town.

“September is such an important month to take advantage of whatever business we can,” noted Lane in a recent letter to Lahaina merchants. Events like “Final Friday” can help.

With art, music and specials at Lahaina’s great restaurants, “Final Friday” has something for everyone. Come down to Front Street, have some fun and support our West Maui businesses.
